Tony Lucca: 5 Things You Don’t Know About The Voice Singer

Christina Aguilera may have not remembered former Mickey Mouse Club costar Tony Lucca when he resurfaced on the Voice this week, but fans of the NBC singing competition are sure to take note now that the singer is competing as part of Adam Levine's team.

PHOTOS: before they were on the Voice!

Here, Us Weekly uncovers five need-to-know details about the early Voice favorite.

1. He may not have been seen on TV for the last few years, but he's definitely been heard. Now a touring solo artist, Lucca's music has been heard in the background on shows including ex-Mousketeer (and ex-girlfriend) Keri Russell's Felicity, Friday Night Lights and Brothers & Sisters.

2. though Aguilera failed to remember their MMC connection at first, Lucca insists there's no hard feelings toward his former cast mate. "The way she came in and went down memory lane was extremely flattering," Lucca says. "Her sentiments were very genuine and honest, and it was legitimately cool to reconnect. everything was going to be a little bizarre in front of a camera, but I couldn't have been happier with the way it went down."

3. Britney Spears may have crushed on him during MMC, but Lucca insists they had a brother-sister bond. Meeting Spears when he was 17 and she was 11, Lucca -- now a married father of two -- was dating Keri Russell at the time. "Britney and Christina just thought the world of [Keri] and really looked up to her. Maybe in that light, it would've been apparent that there might've been a crush, but not something that was ever acted upon. It was much more like little sister type thing."

4. Lucca still maintains friendships with his fellow Mouseketeers. Still in touch with former *NSync-ers Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez -- who took him on as an opening act in their heyday -- Lucca also keeps up with Ryan Gosling. "I see Ryan all the time in Hollywood when I'm out there," Lucca explains. He's a man about town, and we seem to bump into each other quite a bit, and he's still a great friend as well. I'll tell you, it's an amazing family to be a member of."

5. He's glad he's on Team Adam. Worried about Aguilera's reaction going into his blind audition, Lucca is pleased to work with Levine this season. "I was looking forward to working with Adam. I just thought maybe it might be a little awkward if I wound up on Christina's team, let alone down the line if she should have to pick between me and someone else," he says. "The fact that [our connection] didn't don on her until after the blind audition sort of made that a little easier."

Windows Phone isn’t boring

Well, that's what many of you say.

Last week I asked: "Are you bored with Windows Phone?" Simple reason: Windows 8 and Windows 8 on ARM share in Metro a similar tile-like user interface, and I had seen some user complaints about being bored with WP 7.5. I asked the question in anticipation of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, which Microsoft promised to release by month's end.

Given the UI similarities, WP users are a good measure for assessing Metro's viability as the new window to Windows. Windows 8 will bring the most fundamental change to the UI since the graphical user interface adopted for version 3.0 and then revamped for Windows 95. such change comes with risks users will resist, stalling adoption or leading some customers to adopt something else (with Mac OS X near top of list).

Maybe my post rallied the fanboys or represents a broad base of Windows Phone users. Whichever, neither or both, you give a rousing endorsement to the tile-like UI.

"I have a had windows phone for a few months now, and I love it", Jesse Dobson comments. "The simplicity is cool, but I mostly like the phone because of the live tiles, social network integration, Windows Live services integration, the Xbox 360 Companion app, and, most importantly, Zune music pass!!" many of these same features/benefits are expected with Windows 8's Metro UI.

Jason Kohlhoff loves "Metro, and I can't wait for Windows 8". he and his wife have the HTC Trophy.

Perhaps not meaning to, reader Carlos Ribeiro da Fonseca makes a point that is central to the reason why I posed the "boring" question:

Yup, the tiles look boring. on paper or, well, the Interwebs. but that's because you can't show anything 'live' in a static image. on the actual phone, the tiles change, a lot. In fact, if one isn't careful, they can change too much and the home screen can become quite a mess. if anything, they're the complete opposite of boring.

"Are you mad?" Dinesh Pabbi asks, in all caps, no less. "Metro is so good to use and looks absolutely beautiful".

R Walrond, who develops Windows Phone apps, unsurprisingly isn't bored. "I switched to WP7 because I was bored of my iPhone (plus it was much easier to develop for). I don't understand the complaints about the tiles. They come to life with content all the time at least on my Samsung Focus".

Windows Phone is visually, technically, and intuitively awesome to use everyday, even after a year with the device. the apps have the best aesthetics of any platform, and the live tile system works great, and displays the info I choose instantly. Windows Phone's design concept is perfect, and could never be boring because of its natural disposition. Those who say otherwise simply have not used WP!

"'Boring' is certainly not the word I would use, but 'comfortable' is", Eric King comments. "I've had my WP7 for over a year now, and I can't imagine wanting to switch to either the iPhone or Android interfaces".

"I've had a Samsung Focus since October 2010 and I love it. I did buy my teenage daughter an iPhone 4S and honestly I hated setting it up", David Cornelson writes. "I wouldn't trade my Windows Phone OS for anything and certainly not an iPhone. I have the Lumia 900 on pre-order too".

Nokia announced the Lumia 900 Windows Phone in early January. the smartphone is expected to go on sale in March, and Microsoft started taking preorders about two weeks ago. Most readers responding to our poll plan to buy one.

Carlo Mendoza is "not bored at all". I've had an HTC HD2, but have been running WP7 on it a little more than a year". He's "very excited to get Lumia 900. It's only going to get better with Apollo & Windows 8. I see it from the 'Data/Information first' perspective, which is really what the Metro user experience is about in my opinion".

Frequent BetaNews commenter "woe" isn't giddy with enthusiasm and breaks from the largely favorable comments:

The question should be: "Are you bored with Metro?" My answer is yes. When it came out on the Zune is was pretty cool. Microsoft moves as fast as a glacier, because here we are how many years later and its on everything they own finally.

Metro is boring. it was different and new yes, but plain and boring. it is fast -- because its so simple. Simple colors on a simple single-color background. No 3d effects or raised effects, so it's fast. Smart move in terms of a smartphone, since you don't have to waste CPU/GPU cycles on the fancy GUI features -- but boring. In some places, like the calendar on Windows Phone Metro is boring and ugly.

I have recently seen Windows 8 server screen shots, some of the NIC teaming dialog boxes and they were all Metro -- YUK!!!

Okay, so only most of you say Windows Phone isn't boring. will you have the same opinion about Windows 8? I'll ask the question again after you have spent some quality time with the Consumer Preview.

Best Nokia Lumia 710 pre-order deals

We've been spending some quality time with our pre-release Nokia Lumia 710 just recently, and you can be assured we're going to be supplying a steady flow of information and impressions over the coming days and weeks. for now, though, we thought we'd take a look at one or two deals for the Lumia 710 on contract and PAYG.

Nokia Lumia 710 - we've got one!

Just how approachable? hopefully the following will give you a better idea.

Contract deals

We couldn't find any contract details on any of the UK operator websites - only Orange had a "coming soon" page with basic details about the device itself. we know that UK operators will be stocking and promoting the phone, though, so this is clearly a case of operators not being willing to reveal their prices just yet. give it a few more days, though...

On the plus side, Phones 4 U is offering its own contract deals through Vodafone and Orange. The cheapest we could see was a £15.50 per mont deal on Orange. This two year deal includes 100 minutes, 3000 texts and 100MB of internet usage each month - and you get the Nokia Lumia 710 for free. Nice deal!

Vodafone's £26 per month deal through Phones 4 U is also interesting - particularly if you're in the market for a new games console. over two years you get the Lumia 710 handset for free, 300 minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB of data usage. best of all, you also get a PlayStation 3 thrown in for free.

Over on Buymobilephones.net, meanwhile, you can pick up the Nokia Lumia 710 for free on the 3 network for £21 a month over two years. for this you'll get 300 minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited data. This is the offer we'd suggest for heavy internet users and those who tend to download their apps and music tracks over their network connection.

PAYG deals

It's a similar story when it comes to buying the Nokia Lumia 710 outright - the likes of Play.com have the phone listed as coming soon, but such retailers seem to be playing their cards close to their chests when it comes to pricing.

However, we did find the Nokia Lumia 710 available on the ever reliable Expansys for just £299.99. That's for an unlocked SIM-free handset that you can pop any old SIM card in (although do remember that it takes a micro SIM like the Nokia Lumia 800). To put that in context, Expansys charges £399.99 for the Nokia Lumia 800.

Both Mobile Fun and Mobicity knock a whopping four pence of that price - they're selling the Nokia Lumia 710 SIM-free for £299.95 (just in case you were having trouble with the arithmetic).

The best deal we could see for a SIM-free Lumia 710 by far, though, was over on ebuyer. They're offering the Nokia Lumia 710 on pre-order for just £254.99 delivered, which is an absolute steal. at the time of writing they only had 50 available for pre-order, so there's a chance this price could go up for subsequent batches.

Will you be getting a Nokia Lumia 710 on launch day? will you be going for PAYG or contract? Have you found a better deal anywhere? let us know about it in the comments section below.

The Philippines Remains to be a Nokia Nation : 64% of Filipinos in Metro Manila Own a Nokia Phone, According to New Survey!

"Results from the Mobile Life Study of TNS only show that the Philippines is still a Nokia country," shares Dharmesh Goshalia, General Manager of Nokia Philippines.philippines nokia"Despite the deluge of other mobile phone brands, Nokia remains in the consciousness of Filipinos as a reliable mobile device that meets their lifestyle."Full results of the new survey are disclosed in Mobile Life 2012 study by TNS, the world's leading custom research company. with a total of 34,000 respondents the world over, Mobile Life is the most comprehensive research on mobile phones that covers 43 markets from North America to Asia to Sub-Saharan Africa. For Metro Manila coverage, 500 face-to-face interviews were conducted among Pinoy respondents with ages ranging from 16 to 60 years old across all economic classes. among the questions asked in the survey was what brand of handset is owned by Filipinos in Metro Manila or what brand of mobile phone reflects the urban Filipino. A whopping sixty-four percent of the respondents interviewed revealed they currently own a Nokia handset. The handset brand on the second spot trails behind with merely 12%. Note that, compared with the 2010 study, the recent result reveals a decline of ownership of the Nokia brand from 70%. still, the results reflect Filipinos' continuous preference for Nokia handsets even when faced with a lot more choices.Goshalia further reveals that Nokia is serious about making 2012 another landmark year. The company is geared up to deliver new aspirational products that offer choice for consumers, with differentiation on quality and value for money. "Watch out for our Nokia with Windows Phones coming very soon. those Lumia devices will amaze everyone who try it out. Also, expect more Dual SIM and QWERTY devices. we promise that it will be more fun with Nokia," he shared.TP Thoughts:So I guess the hardcore geeks can say a lot of things about the Finnish brand; slam it whatever way they can. but they can't deny the fact that - when everything's said and done - Nokia is still number one -- not only in the Philippines but also in other territories around the world. I mean, that's how it is -- because numbers don't lie.

U.S. OKs trade probes on some imports from South Korea, China

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - a U.S. trade panel on Friday approved investigations that could lead to steep import duties on more than $1 billion of washing machines from South Korea and Mexico and more than $150 million of wind energy towers from China and Vietnam.

The U.S. International Trade Commission agreed there was reasonable evidence that imports from four countries were harming domestic producers. That allowed the U.S. Commerce Department to continue investigations already underway.

The trade panel also approved a third probe on steel wire garment hangers from Taiwan and Vietnam.

In each case, the Commerce Department will set preliminary duty levels in coming months. the ITC must vote its approval again for final duties to take force.

The wind tower case adds to a raft of U.S.-China trade frictions ahead of a visit by China's likely next leader, Vice President Xi Jinping, to Washington next week.

WHIRLPOOL IN a LATHER

Century-old American manufacturer Whirlpool has accused South Korean rivals Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics of selling washers in the United States at prices 31 percent to 82 percent below fair market value.

It also says washing machines imported from Mexico undercut U.S. prices by 27 percent to 72 percent.

South Korea's government has protested the probe, which follows a similar investigation requested by Whirlpool that already has led to U.S. duties on refrigerator imports from South Korea and Mexico involving the same manufacturers.

The ITC vote "validates the actions we've taken to protect the U.S. domestic appliance industry, our 23,000 U.S. employees and the communities in which they work," Whirlpool spokeswoman Kristine Vernier said in a statement.

LG said it would aggressively fight the case as it moves toward the final ITC vote later this year.

"LG looks forward to the opportunity to show why imports from LG, a leading innovator in the washer machine industry, have in no manner injured Whirlpool," said Chris Jung, president of the home appliance unit of LG Electronics USA.

U.S. washing machine imports from South Korea and Mexico were an estimated $659.1 million and $450.2 million, respectively, in 2010, according to the Commerce Department.

U.S.-CHINA CLEAN ENERGY TRADE FRICTION

Meanwhile, the Wind Tower Trade Coalition, a group of U.S. producers, alleges China undercuts U.S. wind tower prices by more than 200 percent and Vietnam undercuts U.S. prices by more than 140 percent.

The towers, used in large-scale wind farms, can stretch more than 100 meters (300 feet) in the air. they support the blades and housing for wind turbines.

China has warned the wind tower case, and a separate U.S. investigation targeting Chinese-made solar panels, could harm bilateral cooperation in the clean energy sector.

German manufacturing giant Siemens, which imports many wind towers from Asia, also opposes the duties.

"Domestic manufacturers have proved themselves unreliable and unwilling often to provide supply," Christopher Hauer, director of Siemens tower operations in the United States, told the ITC last month.

The United States imported an estimated $103.6 million and $51.9 million of the towers from China and Vietnam, respectively, in 2010.

Friday's vote came shortly after new data showed overall U.S. imports grew nearly 14 percent in 2011 to a record $2.66 billion. Periods of rapidly rising imports often lead to more trade cases being filed.
