Leaked iPhone 5 SIM Card Tray Indicates Flat-Edged Form Factor?

If the leaked SIM card tray for the next generation iPhone turns out to be real deal then we may not have to change the SIM card as it seems to be identical to the one used in iPhone 4S.

After the leak of the purported iPhone 5 Home button couple of weeks back, it is folks at parts vendor SW-BOX.com who have posted information and image of the SIM card tray of iPhone 5, which they have allegedly received from Apple's part suppliers.

Apple has trying hard to push an even smaller SIM card standard for future iPhones to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI. But ETSI postponed the vote at the end of March as the participating companies failed to reach an agreement.

Due to this delay, we won't be surprised if Apple continues to use the micro-SIM card design in the next generation iPhone, which is currently used in iPhone 4S.

But as MacRumors points out the purported iPhone 5 SIM card tray does give some insight into the design of the next generation iPhone:

The tray appears essentially identical to the SIM card tray found in the iPhone 4S and 4, and if the part is indeed legitimate it suggests that Apple may retain a similar flat-edged form factor for the forthcoming device. such a design would be opposed to a tapered or rounded-edge design that would likely require a somewhat curved exterior surface for the tray or at least a thinner tray profile as was seen in earlier iPhone models such as the 3G and 3GS.

What do you think of the possibility of the next generation iPhone with a flat-edged form factor?

Cheap Business Phones

Cheap business phones and phone systems are available from several U.S. as well as international manufacturers. most business telephone systems essentially consist of several internal telephones, fax machines and other devices, connected to each other and to the outside world by a switching system. Switching systems, called PABXs or PBXs are distinguished from smaller systems by the fact that external lines cannot be normally selected at any individual extension.

Smaller systems are called key systems and are cheaper than PBXs. a specific outgoing line is selected to make a call and external number is dialed on a key system. To make a call on a PBX system, the user needs to dial 9 or 0 followed by the external number. Requirement of 0 or 9 dial will differ, depending on that particular system. PBX automatically selects an open outgoing trunk line to complete the call.

A PBX performs three basic functions, namely, establishing connections between the telephone sets of two users, maintaining the connection as long as the users need them and providing information such as call duration, for accounting purposes. in addition to these basic functions, PBXs used in business usually need to have many other capabilities. Different business telephone system manufacturers provide different features in an effort to gain competitive edge. Some extra capabilities include call transfer, direct inward dialing, speed dialing, voice mail, call forwarding on absence, call forwarding on busy, music on hold, automatic ring back, night service, call distribution, call waiting, call pick-up, call park, call conferencing, custom greetings, shared message boxes, automated directory services and call accounting. it is important to note that many of these extra capabilities also need to be provided by the service provider to which that company is subscribing. merely having them on PBX and telephone handset is practically useless.

Many agencies throughout United States offer cheaper new or reconditioned telephone systems. a large variety of cheap business phones is also available online, through the Internet. However it is better to make sure that the product comes with sufficient warranty and an established after-sales service within the US.

At Webutante Ball, Geeks Come Out of Their Cubicles to Party

NEW YORK — If you’re at the top of the internet food chain now, chances are that part of your attraction to and success in the industry stems from the fact you weren’t the most “popular” kid at your high school prom. Or maybe you didn’t even attend and passed the night on IRC instead.

Luckily, the age of geek vindication is upon us, where only the smart survive and sometimes the nice guy does get the girl. for those with lingering prom remorse, the Webutante Ball is the ultimate redo experience. Held Wednesday here, the event drew citizens from all walks of internet-based life to mix, mingle, bump, grind — and proudly geek out.

Founded by Thrillist Managing Editor Richard Blakeley to give twenty-somethings an excuse to emerge from behind their computer screens and dress up for a reason other than a wedding, this year’s gathering — the fourth to date — attracted more than 700 glammed-out geeks to the Marquee nightclub in Chelsea.

“It’s like Revenge of the Nerds, IRL,” Blakeley said. “honestly I think that now that we all live in public on the internet, we’ve all just come to the realization that we’re all nerds.”

Most guests took the opportunity to don red-carpet attire, several opting to use the designer gown rental service Rent the Runway. There was no shortage of bow ties, but the most notable accessory had to be the boa made out of $100 bills (fake, to be sure) worn by Hagan Blount of Ingk Labs, a new York City-based tech accelerator that invests in disruptive technologies.

Named King and Queen of the Webutantes were Reece Pacheco, founder of Shelby.tv, and Lauren Appelwick, Shelby.tv’s brand director. the two swapped royal accessories throughout the night; the king proudly sported the queen’s feather boa and the queen his crown.

“We’re not really into gender roles,” Applewick said.

Blakeley wouldn’t reveal the methodology for naming the king and queen, but said that it had to do with a prediction that the winners’ company would be the next big thing in 2012.

If there was one takeaway from last night’s event, it was that nerds love a good dance party. in the upstairs room, Preston Charles from MTV captivated the room with his moves when Britney Spears came on the speakers. down on the main level — as DJ Frankenmack fielded requests through the Twitter Hashtag #unrulyrequests — the dance floor was packed with Webutantes raving to blaring techno mashups.

I don’t know about revenge, but the nerds definitely had their moment in the sun last night.

I’m Dreaming of a Pink Christmas

With summer warmth still lingering in the air (at least in the afternoons here in the Northeastern US), it's hard to turn your mind to Christmas, but in reality it's only two months away. Yikes I'm not a terrible procrastinator, but every year, I somehow convince myself that Christmas is far off, and end up spending the last two weeks before the holiday in a manic shopping frenzy. This year will be different. I will start early, and I will find the perfect gift for everyone

Since I adore everything pink (electronics in particular) and I know a lot of you do too, I thought I'd share some of my perfect pink discoveries (ordered from least to most expensive) with you.

Tea rose colored and nostalgia-inducing, the Princess Phone by Crosley is small, classy and indisputably feminine. Originally introduced in 1959, it has been updated with modern technology (push buttons, flash/redial and volume control) but has thankfully kept its looks. It's corded, which is a good thing - recent research suggests that cordless home phones expose you to dangerous levels (100 times more than cell phones) of electromagnetic radiation.

Sony's bubble gum colored portable DVD player DVP-FX820/P is great for watching movies on the go. while not the most imaginatively named, is does have a lot of terrific features such as an incredibly clear, crisp 8 HD swivel screen with 800x480 resolution, an external (but fits like an internal) battery which lasts up to 6 hours (tip: turning the LCD brightness level down extends the battery life), two headphone jacks, remote control and a car adapter.

The totally adorable metallic champagne pink Nikon CoolpixS60 is a digital camera which is not only a joy to look at, it's loaded with great features: 10 megapixels (meaning flawless, sharp prints up to 16x20), a 3.5 touch panel which lets you focus on a specific subject just by touching it on the screen, face-recognition, which finds the face(s) in a picture even in low light or when they're moving around, 3 different anti-blur modes, automatic red eye removal, 17 different modes including the more unusual food, party and museum settings, and it weighs only 5.1 oz.

The iPod touch is a marvelous sleek toy with some terrific features: a phenomenal music player, video playback, a Safari Web browser, photo viewer, an e-mail reader and lots of other components such as weather, calendar, maps, and stocks. How about taking that toy one step further and adding some gold to it? That's precisely what Continental Mobiles, an online British luxury shop, has done. they offer the iPod touch (as well as several other iPod models) encased in 18k rose gold, adding even more sophistication to an already uber-posh gadget.

With the look of a designer handbag, Ego laptops are without a doubt the most stylish and chic notebooks I have ever seen. Made by Ego Lifestyle in the Netherlands, these gorgeous computers come in a variety of designs (check out the pale pink Destiny or the cerise Flamingo), but if you don't see anything you like, they can customize them for you. Ego's laptops are currently available in the US from Saks fifth Avenue in NYC and Avant Gallery in Miami Beach, and in the UK at Selfridges and Harrods in London and at Gassan Diamonds at Heathrow Airport.

I hope I have given you a bit of inspiration for finding the perfect gifts for your family and friends. Remember, it's never too early to start shopping for the holidays

Disappointed By jontjioe I've gone through many headsets trying to find the perfect one. after trying this one, I'm still looking.Pros:1. Volume is very loud2. Person on the other end said they could hear me very clearly and could not tell I was on a headset3. Sound quality on my end was average. I could hear people pretty well, but the sound clarity wasn't as good as previous headsets I have owned.Cons:1. Sometimes just randomly disconnects for no reason. I would be actively talking on it and like 2 feet away, and it would just disconnect. It usually reconnects within 2-3 seconds but this gets annoying. Happens maybe 1-2 times a day.2. Expensive3. Battery life is pretty bad compared to other headsets. I have to charge it every 1.5-2 days and I've probably only used it maybe for 3 hours talk time. I do not leave the headset turned on if I am not using it.if they improved the sound quality, fixed the random disconnects, and increased the battery life, I would be more than happy to pay the $150 as I just want a headset that works! Sorry, Bose, this headset is below the standard of quality we are accustomed to from your brand. See all 84 customer reviews...

Lewis & Clark County records more pertussis cases

Four new cases of pertussis - also known as whooping cough - have been confirmed in Lewis & Clark County in the past week, bringing the total to 23 cases since March.

The persistence of the outbreak has prompted health officials to make sure both adults and children stay up to date on their vaccinations.

Pertussis is a serious respiratory illness that spreads easily through sneezing and coughing.

Montana has confirmed 155 cases this year compared to 54 last year at this time; western Montana has been hit particularly hard.

(April 12, 2012) Eleven cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, have been identified in the past two weeks in the Helena area, according to the Lewis & Clark City-County Health Department.

The cases have so far been found in school-aged children and adults. The health department is contacting people who have been exposed to the disease in an effort to keep it from spreading.

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads through close and prolonged person-to-person contact. People with pertussis can have symptoms ranging from runny nose and intermittent cough to severe uncontrollable coughing that can last for months - this is sometimes called "the 100-day cough."

Pertussis is common in the United States, and there are frequent outbreaks, but it can cause serious illness and can even be life-threatening, especially in infants.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend using antibiotics to treat those in close, prolonged contact with someone who is sick with pertussis. Antibiotics work best when given early in the course of the disease.

Karen Dobson, a public health nurse with the county agency, noted, "Another way to help protect our community is to get vaccinated. Adults, especially those who live and work with infants, should be sure they've received a tetanus booster with pertussis. Protection from the regular series of childhood shots wanes over time."

The health department offers pertussis shots during regular walk-in immunization clinics Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1930 Ninth Ave.

For more information, contact your health-care provider or the Lewis and Clark City-County Health Department, 443-2584, or visit the CDC website at cdc.gov/pertussis.

There have been numerous reports of pertussis in western Montana in recent weeks, even triggering the closure of a school.

Samsung’s 55-inch OLED TV will be $9000

OLED displays have been on most geeks’ wishlists for years. they have been right around the corner for about a decade now, and for the past year or two they have been stuck on our MP3 players, mobile phones, and cameras, never making it much past that 4-inch mark. That is, unless you wanted to spend a small fortunate on something like Sony’s famous XEL-1 11-Inch OLED television.

Samsung has some good news and some bad news for all you home theater fans. The good news first: Reasonably-sized OLED televisions are finally going into production and will be available to consumers. and the bad news: That small fortunate an OLED TV would once cost you has grown along with the televisions. Samsung’s upcoming ES9500, the company’s 55-inch OLED HDTV, will reportedly cost $9000 when it’s made available this summer.

Aside from being a nice size (if your apartment is big enough) and having what must be a brilliant picture, the ES9500 has some nice features as well. Of course it’s 3D-ready, but it’s also capable of dual-channel 2D watching. so two people, both of whom are wearing 3D glasses, can watch different televisions programs in 2D at the same time. Samsung must have figured out the audio situation for this technology, which is known as Smart Dual View, but it’s doable. for example, maybe one person would get the headphone jack and another would get the speakers, or a wireless solution could be integrated, possibly Bluetooth, if Samsung wants to get clever with it.

At this point a release outside of South Korea has yet to be confirmed, but with an expected 2H2012 release timing, we should know more before long. Just to be safe, you’ll probably want to start saving now.
